BIRTHDAY BUMPIN'

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to. Tears of wild and crazy pregnancy hormones, that is.

Today marks my 27th birthday and I have a week and a half until the due date of my little dude. I've been so blessed to have a pleasant pregnancy thus far, and seriously haven't had much to complain about in this journey. That's not saying that I haven't complained a time or two about my ever expanding feet and the inability to sleep comfortably at night, but who's counting those, really? Haha! As I am in the final weeks before my son is due, I must say, there are a mixture of emotions in preparing for the approaching big day. As most mothers I'm sure can relate, I am completely attached to my baby bump. Not just because I am having a great time styling looks that show off my bump, but because my baby boy and I have this incredibly special bond that we have built during the nine months that he's been cooking in there. There's emotions that stem from the truth that I am beyond READY to see him, hold him, kiss him, and just anxiously awaiting his arrival. Our little nest is ready, mama and papa are ready, and we just know that he will be with us any day now.

My advice to the expectant mothers reading, when you get down to the final weeks, be patient and try not to get discouraged if your baby decides to stay in there a bit longer. You WILL be ready and eager when you have two weeks to go, but baby may not be quite ready, just yet.

Funny enough, for my birthday dinner last night, we went out to a local Italian restaurant to try out the "Eggplant Parmesan method". You may ask, what is this method? Well, apparently Eggplant Parmesan is known to induce labor within 48 hours after enjoying the dish. Last night, my determined plan was to give it a try. It was certainly not meant to be for this soon-to-be mama, as the first thing the waiter announces to our table upon arrival was "the one and only dish that we are out of for this evening is...the EGGPLANT PARMESAN!!!!" As disappointed as I was to receive this news, I came to the realization that my baby boy will come when he wants to, simple as that!

Whether he decides to make his debut on my birthday (today), or tomorrow, or on his due date of August 4th, it will be the best birthday present that this mama could ever receive. My little LEO sidekick will be cradled in my arms in no time! Yipee!

BOYS RULE

Blogger, Family, Lookbook, Maternity, Motherhood, Photography, Style, VintageOlivia NicoleComment

When you're "ready to pop" at 38 weeks pregnant, what's more comfortable than spending your days in your man's clothes?! Literally, nothing! First of all, it is not only all I currently fit in, but comfort is EVERYTHING in the final days of carrying around a basketball in my belly. Any day now, and my little dude will be filling my arms instead of my tummy! As much as I'll miss this, seeing his little face is all I can think about!

I'm feeling like one of the boys in this look, as I'm preparing to be wonderfully outnumbered by my two favorite boys of all, soon enough!

Bring it on boys, this mama is ready!

CHECKERED PAST

Blogger, Makeup, Model, Photo Shoot, Photography, Style, StylistOlivia NicoleComment

Styles change, but the past is never forgotten!

As far as fashion goes, trends come and go, but styles are always recycled from our past! Whether it be the revival of PUNK from the 80s and 90s or living and loving a bohemian lifestyle like in the 70s, we all see past trends returning time and time again, but always with a bit of a modern day twist.

My style has evolved so much over the years, and with age, came creativity and individuality. The older I get and the more experiences that I have had, has taught me to continue to push the envelope with my style and to not be afraid to take risks. I tend to do things a little more wacky than I did in let's say my teenage years and early twenties. I have always gained my style inspirations from the past, but have made sure to always make that style fit my personal aesthetic. Whether I play with bohemian styles or Americana styles, I always give that personal rock n' roll touch that has remained part of my "signature look"!

Lesson here, always be conscious of the history of fashion/style, while remembering to integrate your own personal touch with the styles from our past. Let's be real, we can all learn a little something from the past.

Over the past few months, I have really taken to the thrill of wearing wigs to enhance my punk rock look! Having short hair makes it super easy to switch up your look for any occasion, just by experimenting with fun and colorful wigs like this Violet Bob from Dolls Kill!

Whether I'm channeling my inner alter ego, going incognito, or just in need of a change for a day, wearing wigs only enhance my already colorful personality, causing me to be who I want to be, each and every day!

WIZARD WALKING

"Evil power disappears. Demons worry when the wizard is near. He turns tears into joy. Everyone's happy when the wizard walks by." - Black Sabbath

Breathe it in like a long drag of a cigarette, the magical powers when the wizard walks by. A wizard in black is under attack, chasing shadows and working spells to be the baddest wizard of all.

Rock n' roll saves my soul and so does Black Sabbath on vinyl. Channeling my inner wizard of darkness in a recent series highlighting my punk rock edge in a classic black ensemble with photography by the photo wizard herself, Kelsey Fugere.
